A common approach in cybersecurity is - if you can’t beat them, learn their offensive tactics and use them for defense. The stealth, deception and concealment which cybercriminals use as their ammo for attacks can be easily appropriated by cyber defense professionals, in order to beat them at their own game.

We think Gartner's recent publication was an overview of a growing technological space that promises to reimagine dynamic cybersecurity in the near future - Automated Moving Target Defense (AMTD). This comprehensive approach shifts away from rudimentary detection and response capabilities that a majority of security vendors offer today. According to Gartner, “focus on creating AEIR systems that are scalable, securely integrated with existing systems to ensure data privacy protection, and extensible via APIs so that they can become part of larger AMTD-style prevention systems.”

This space has adapted to the market’s needs and evolved alongside the increased sophistication of malicious actors. New technologies such as Opus’s Cloud Security Orchestration solution leverages innovative features including automation and orchestration of processes to ensure dynamic, real-time remediation across all environments, code and cloud.

Opus was mentioned as one of the Sample Related Vendors and Organizations in the Automated Exposure Identification and Response (AEIR) space. We believe this is due to the inclination of attackers to exploit dispersed environments. While existing tools use manual and complex project management processes to address risks - most of which they can’t see, manage or prioritize - the AEIR approach that Opus employs orchestrates response and remediation efforts across numerous stakeholders and security solutions, to address risks in a proactive manner.

As cited in the report, “Gartner believes that AEIR is a critical area with significant potential for growth as threat actors increasingly target exposed SaaS, cloud services, and decentralized architectures for services and data delivery. As these trends continue to expand, AEIR is likely to disrupt traditional approaches to vulnerability assessments and established exposure management strategies and practices."

The key element of growth in AEIR is the ability to automate human processes and eliminate human patch and remediation efforts or avoid manual or human-driven remediation workflows. AEIR is applicable to multiple industries and technology channel partners, matching the requirement of proactively identifying and prioritizing exposures and mitigating the risks they present.

Use AMTD technology as a key differentiator to enhance your existing detection and response service offerings.
